Identity Crisis

Okay, I just found out that the Zodiac has been changed to include a 13th sign that was part of the traditional Babylonian panoply. Thus, many of us now have new signs. My dad is no longer a Pisces, but an Aquarius, for instance.

I mean, yes it sucks to have your sign shift, but you guys, my situation resulting from this change is worse.

I am the new 13th sign.

It's called Ophiuchus. First of all, that word sounds like "mucus". Second of all, WHO AM I?! My whole life I have been told I am a classic Sagittarius. Here are some Sagittarian characteristics:

Interested in expanding horizons through traveling abroad, learning foreign languages, or immersing themselves in unique cultures. These individuals thrive on higher education. They tend to be optimistic and have a great capacity for faith, as it is this good-natured faith that usually plays into their fortunate endeavors. Fiery enthusiasm, blunt sincerity, honest convictions, love of independence, adventurous, enjoy the outdoors, joyful, and outgoing (thanks, Wikipedia).

That just summed up yours truly, no?

But apparently NOT!

So who am I now, if not a joyful, blunt, traveler?

NO ONE KNOWS! In an hour of intensive internet research on characteristics of the Ophiuchus, I could not find one site with a list of qualities. Not only must I shed my Sagittarian identity, I have to deal with my new Zodiac sign being a total tabula fucking rasa. This may result in years of therapy.

Penance

Friends, I have been a bad blogger. Furthermore, I am considering moving my thoughts to Tumblr, as it has a better app for my phone, and therefore I might blog more. Also, addendum to my "furthermore", I feel like this blog was perhaps for college-times, and now that I am in the workforce, perhaps I need something less time consuming. Tumblr seems perfect for my ten minutes of spare time per day. Abandonment of TeamLara seems cruel, though. Hmm...

Atonement

I have been a horrible blogger as of late, and for this I must repent.

Here's what has been keeping me from teh internetz:

MDawg visiting PDX
Lake Cabin weekend
Vampire Weekend concert
Buying Silly Bandz
Hot tubbing with Maddie
Weekly How I Met Your Mother nights at Emily's
Walking dogs with Katie
Planning a trip to DC/NYC with Lauren
Cousin's [dry] wedding
Trips to Seattle (zoo! booze! pizza!)
Reading the Italian translation of Harry Potter 2
Enrico and Rachel visiting PDX
Working, working, working
Interning, interning, interning
Figuring out WTF I'm doing with my life

The last point is an ongoing project. I feel like now that I'm not in school, I have to start some type of project in September to mark the passage of time in some form other than "long weekend", "end of fiscal year", "birthday"; this year my projects are "apply to international grants", "make yourself impressive" and "work a lot". Too bad you don't get As for projects you assign to yourself. I would kind of like a Life Report Card to know if I'm failing any subjects these days.

Things I Like, Things I Dislike

Things I Like:
Saturday: cozy rainy-day breakfast with a friend, eating Ballet's Pad Thai, reuniting with Jessica (recently returned from Michigan) on Saturday night at Harvard Theater.

Sunday: beautiful weather, chillin with Glo and playing Mario Kart, lots of lovely friends over for wine, grapes, cheese, crackers, and smoked salmon, getting tipsy, learning how to play Mario Party.

Monday: not feeling hung-over, watching 3 episodes of Discovery Channel's "A Haunting" with the roommates, eating left over grapes, eating a delish dinner and watching Dirty Dancing with several fellow bloggers (NoPants, GarrettLives, GloJamz, ScenesFromAnItalianRestaurant) and others.

Tuesday: beautiful weather, watching Gossip Girl online, packing for NYC, eating Safeway's version of the Girl Scout's Samoa cookie.

Things I Dislike:
I have to move home to Portland on October 4th. NOT PLEASED about this at all. Blerg.

Thing I Like about Thing I Dislike: we're going to have a SICK send-off event. You fools best be leaving Friday, Oct. 2 open. Or else.

Fall? Is that You?

3:30 in the afternoon, reading in bed post-nap, gray and raining outside, wearing a cardigan, house is quiet...Seems like Fall. I have this nagging feeling that I should be going to class at 3:45, and that when it's over at 5:50 it'll be dark out and raining even harder, and the bottoms of my jeans will get wet when I walk from Admin back to the apt.

But it's technically still summer, and I've graduated, so none of those things will actually take place. It just seems like one of those rainy Tuesdays on which I'd have an undesirable lit. class to attend (and half-nap through), followed by several hours of reading for a 10-12:05 art history class the next morning. Right? Anyone else feel like they should be in class right now? Anyone? Anyone?...Bueller? Bueller?

Sending Off a Team Lara Player

ML
Mt. Rainier geology 101 field trip
2006

This weekend we said goodbye (for now) to our dear pal ML, who is leaving us for SF and Central America. Exciting for her, sad for us. We sent her off in baller style as a way of re-introducing her back to her native California. ML, we will miss you: stay classy, stay safe, and we'll see you soon. LOVES!
